My local garage has told me to replace a steering rack they will need to remove the transfer box. Meaning a bill "possibly into four figures". Is this right? I cannot find any information on this anywhere.

I'd be inclined to believe them, there's not a lot of room down there. On the 2.2 Antara with 4X4 transmission you even have to remove the transfer box when changing the starter. Member Richy did a DIY write-up on it, see HERE

removing the transfer box and dropping the subframe, isnt that much of a major job, just to remove the steering rack. I'd go get a few more quotes as to me, that sounds expensive.

thanks guys the steerink 'clonks' butolywhenat full lock. mechnic aid' not a mot failure just annoying. I am going to change it anyway. to be safe. your thoughts?
