Restoring 'Auto-on' Light function

13931 Views 52 Replies 19 Participants Last post by  Bigjohnsparky
As a follow on from my post within the (now locked) DRL thread with regards to restoring the proper light level sensing auto-on function of the Antara headlights, here I am back at Peter Vardy in Kirkcaldy for attempt No2.

Having requested a VCI for my vehicle to allow the software change to be made, VX responded thus; No VCI is required, the change just needs to be made with the diagnostic system online rather than connected to the car offline. The system will then connect to the VX server and download the update over the air in real-time.

We shall see if it works in about half an hour or so.

As an aside, I have asked for either a copy of the VX bulletin or a printout of all the code changes made to the car, for my own records, so that I might maintain a full note of all servicing carried out on the vehicle (prior to any future sale)... And, of course, so that I might provide fellow forum members with the information too

Time for a second Cappuccino I think....

Well, at the risk of sounding like Victor Meldrew;

"I DON'T BLOODY BELIEVE IT!"

Mission not achieved. Despite being online, the VX system failed to achieve an upgrade and instead, downloaded my vehicle ECU configuration, which has been emailed to the server for subsequent modification by the geeks at VX in Germany. Once my update is ready the dealer should be able to download it from VX and carry out the work...

So far that's 2 wasted trips, 60 extra miles and 4 hours I won't get back. The update now won't happen until I get back from Saudi in mid-December.

If you didn't have bad luck, you'd have no luck at all.

Don't know what they're playing at, had crap drls switched off in may 2012 (car a month old) So runs on Auto.
Also had mine changed so purely Auto took dealer less time, than for me to drink complimentary hot chocolate.
It should be simple I agree, however,as I found out when attempting to install the 'Bluefin', my 2013 Antara has already been 'blessed' with a software upgrade over the 2012 models which means it generally doesn't appear as a generic Antara - I had to send the default ECU map away to the Superchips/Bluefin geeks to get a 'custom' map before I could use my Bluefin unit to upload it into my car.I just thought that today, with the dealer having already contactedVX and, having the Antaraconnected to a VX server, rather than offline,it would have been a quick, trouble freeover-the-air update and install. It would seem even VX can't keep up to date with what vehicle has been given what software version!?

Oh well, roll on December. Maybe then eh?

At the risk of being controversial I just leave mine on auto all the time which as we all know is just on....it's not as if I can see them when I'm driving lol

I leave mine on all the time and just drive happily along without a care in the world as I just want to enjoy my car and my drive without stressing about the small things in life , I have found life is to short to worry as you are a longtime dead.

I think the problem here is that some people don't care if the lights are on or off or like me and others want what they paid for and indeed was advertised. (the car has automatic headlights) IMO being on all the time is not automatic

Today I received an email from PV Kirkcaldysaying thatthey had received mysoftware recode from VX Germany (there's Germanic efficiency for you).
I have scheduled a visit this Thursday prior to my departure for KSA. If it fails this time I may have to pop the lid on my can of 'Whupass' ...

At today's (third) attempt at restoring my 'Auto-on' function we have success!

I have also scanned a copy of the relevant VX technical bulletin for members' interest and information; along with highlighting some particularly interesting text.

That's great news lazarus and thank you for the TSB.
Think I will go and shove a copy of it under my dealers nose, mind you I still don't think he will pay it any notice

I noticeat the end it says warranty period, did you have to pay for your lights to be put as they should be?

Thanks for that Lazarus... will make sure the useless dealer, who had the car in yesterday, will be made aware of that.

As 2Dogs says... did they charge?
Car booked in Wednesday to see if I can get what I paid for, auto lights.
Will go armed with the TSB from Lazarus and see what they say this time

Well at last got my lights turned to proper auto
thanks to the TSB posted by Lazarus

Trouble is now that what ever they have done has made the red air bag light on the dash stay on as is the yellow one on the passanger side so got to go back again

This is copied from my post back in April when mine where done notice the similarity.<div style=": rgb251, 251, 253;">"However when car was returned jumped in following day and lo and behold a new problem. Airbag warning light on all the time. Back to garage left with them to be put back on computer. they reset its logic and all cured again."

I had exactly the same problem when mine was done last year. Had to go back in the next day to have it sorted.
