I just paid £220 from a vx dealer but others were quoting anything up yo £300. I think it depended on your dealer and if they were pushing service plans. Most seem to quote a higher price to scare everyone into buying a service plan.

Does anyone have the Vauxhall Antara service plan or has anyone bought a "service" plan from another manufacturer for another car ?

Basically I am being nosey to see whether these plans are competitive or whether it is better just to grab the best deal available for each service.

I have a plan with Bristol Street - 3 years servicing (60,000 miles) for £24 a month over 32 months. The dealer I bought the car from wanted £37.50 ish over 36 months!!

I live in the North East and contacted all the VX dealers in the patch as a customer for the first service and was quoted between £250 and £296 (they all said 1st and 3rd service was the same price). I did the same for the 2nd service and £380 ish was the average.

One thing I will say is the price of plans vary and I was told that there is a laid down price plus the dealers labour charges, which dealers can then offer discount with the alleged maximum being 24%. I was quoted a price from Evans Halshaw and Bristol Street beat it by giving the 24%. You also qualify for a load of other so called benefits and discounts by having a plan but whether they are worth anything in the real the word is to be seen (10% parts discount, free tire repairs, collection and delivery service etc....)

I went for the plan so I know what the cost will be over the 3 years, however, come the time if there are any offers on the go, the plan will be cancelled as it is really just a glorified savings scheme with a chosen dealer!

Spantara has gone in for her first service today. She has not done any great distance - just 6,755 km or just under 4,200 miles. She would have been due her annual service next month but, as I will be away almost all of September and as the month is to end with a drive to Gib. and back, I considered it best to get the job done now.

What can I tell you? Well, nothing really at the moment except that the charge for labour (both for mechanics and painters) here in Vigo is €52.90 per hour plus VAT.

Hopefully, Spantara will be returned to me after work today and I will be able to let you know the total cost.

My first service and warranty reactivation was carried out back in March - £270 all in, not too bad really for main dealer servicing

Not looking forward to the next one though

My first service was back in June, garage originally quoted £350, then when I started looking elsewhere discovered they had made a mistake!!! and it should be £249. They offered me a service plan when I bought it but that was going to cost £1000+ and I thought that was expensive for three services even with a free MOT. Guess you just have to shop around each year

Contacted my Local Vauxhall Dealer and they wanted £348.56 for first service when I have only done 8000 miles !!
Contacted other local Garages and got a quote of £171 so yes a difference of £177 , when I contacted the local Vauxhall Dealer again and asked them to match the best price they made me a special offer of £250 !! Still £75 for the same service.

I really would like to keep my Car Maintained , serviced and repaired by a Vauxhall Dealership but they clearly don't need my custom even when I literally live just 2 miles from the dealership garage.
Coupled with the Vauxhall demand that you pay them £29.99 for a 5 minute check otherwise you lose the 6 year anti corrosion warranty.

Come on Vauxhall - Really is the way to treat Customers who have placed faith in your product ?

You can Haggle. I paid £109 plus they used my own oil (Dexos2 that I bought for £18-00). It also cost me £12 to insure the courtesy car. That was at Arnold Clark in Stretford Manchester, but I booked it through the service centre.

EDIT £109

I have just paid last week 200 all in at my vx dealer, was originally quoted 339. Pays you to shop around and haggle, looking at service plans etc I came across Vauxhall pre paid debit card on my.vauxhall.com. I put £130 a week on card to do shopping at asda then earn points back towards cost of service, I've had card 6 weeks already got £28 on it so should pay for most of next service!! Take a look suits some not others, they're accepted at 30 stores!!

I pay £11.50 p/m for a Peter Vardy VX Service Plan on our SE Antara. It's a 5 year plan which means thateach warranty and bodywork service from the 1st to the 5th (inclusive) will effectively cost us £138. I think that's okay for Dealer service costs actually

My Dealer offered to lower the First Service charge to £250 Because he knows that if you want to keep your Anti Corrosion Warranty then Vauxhall insist that it is inspected by a Vauxhall Agent and my Agent wants to charge me £40 for a 5minute check of the cars condition. So at just 1 year old and 8500 miles on the clock I will lose my Anti Corrosion warranty because I'm damned if I'm going to support services that are anti competitive and expensive.

Anyone who is looking to buy a Vauxhall who thinks that they are protected by Block exemption servicing should be aware of this. Vauxhall will only allow the check to be carried out by a Vauxhall Dealer and if you refused to pay the extortionate service charge for the car they will get you by charging you £40 to spend 5 minutes checking your Body Panels.

So who protects the consumer from this anti competitive behaviour ?

I don't understand why people buy a new car and then complain that they have to pay to service it correctly. If you lose your paintwork warranty over not wanting to pay £40 or whatever you are quite foolish. This is highlighted by a few owners having rust issues at a young age. You won't feel so clever when you have to spend hundreds of £ next year on removing rust.
I just paid £250 for my first service and was perfectly happy to do so. No warranty worries for me, that's why I bought a 6 month old car.

Mini rant over!

Indeed Sir; having bought 2 brand new Antara SE Nav models both circa £25K, around 18 months apart, I'm now more happy to have the 'comfort blanket' of a dealer service/warranty cover to protect my investment. The only thing I get done elsewhere (at my local garage) is an interim Oil Service every 10Kmiles to avoid the 'oil quality' warning lamp coming on -and then it's done with proper Dexos2!

Summer shall see the first service on our newest Antara, so I'll get to compare if the customer service experience at PV has improved any since last time ...

I believe the fist service on a new antara is only a oil change .I try to get genuine parts plus oil of eBay or the net take to local dealer and just pay labour works out a lot cheaper
