I have recently had to take my 7 month old 2.2 Antara back to the dealer due to an engine oil leak from the sump. I had been told by someone who works in a dealer that this is a common issue on these cars and they are repairing them quite regular. It appears the sump was not sealed correctly, and in some instances the timing cover gasket or rear crank seal housing gasket are also leaking.
You need to remove the under tray to check it properly though and look up at the sump bolts. Very annoying on such a new car.

The car has now been in 4 times to resolve this issue. After the second repair the oil started dripping onto the exhaust whilst it tried to regenerate the DPF, this resulted in blue smoke coming from under the car. It is currently in for the fourth attempt at repair. I am so tempted to tell them to keep the car if they cant fix it. Really disappointed with the car.

I've not heard of any others on the forum with the problem and in your case it doesn't seem like as simple as it wasn't sealed correctly, the sump gasket is not really a high pressure area so should (the magic should) be a very easy repair, maybe there is a fault with the sump pan itself, I know how things like this can be sole destroying and dam annoying, fingers crossed it's sorted this time..

So far they have replaced the sump gasket, the timing cover gasket and the rocker cover gasket too. Looking up the back of the engine its dripping off the aux belt tensioner, so its coming from something high up, the oil filter housing is in that area so that could be suspect.

Do you think these have leaked at some point or just been changed trying to fix the issue ?, if they have all leaked the crank case breather system could be a point the dealer needs to check, if not working or slightly blocked it will raise the crank pressure and oil will be pushed out in the end, weakest point first.
Problem is the dealers never like customers suggestions they think your being a smart a**e..

Shouldn't be a breather issue, it's got less that 10,000 on the clock and is 8 months old.
The dealers know I'm a smart arse as I have informed them that I teach motor vehicle technology in a college, have been a mechanic myself for many years and have a degree in Motorsport engineering. They no longer try to bluff me when I go in, they're very apologetic

Hopefully they will sort it, service department have been as helpful as possible to be fair, just lost faith in Vauxhall cars.

Sorry to revive an oldish thread but did you get to the bottom of the problem and get a satisfactory repair ? The reason I'm asking is I have just had my car mot'd and they noticed a leak from the crank seal / timing belt area . There was also another 13 plate antara in the dealers with the exact same fault ! My car has covered 27,000 miles I've had problems previously with the EGR valve sticking and wonder if this has allowed excessive pressure to build and blow the seals ? I'm very nervous as the car is almost out of its 3 year warranty period and if they don't fix it at the first attempt it could be down to me to finance any further repair work . If I didn't owe so much money on this car it would have been got rid of by now ....

A sticking EGR valve could not build crankcase pressure up. More likely a faulty seal. Many many items these days are made from crap and made in china. The component suppliers get the work if they are the lowest bidder and often cut corners.

Nope, it still leaks. Been in 4 times in total now, last time they blamed it on residual spillage. I've cleaned off since and it's still there. Going back soon. I hate the car and can't wait to get rid of it.

Take it somewhere else. All they are doing is cleaning the oil residue. To change a crankshaft seal ,the gearbox has to come out and its a big job, hence fobbing you off.

They want 2 days to do mine , but I don't have much faith from previous experience . The EGR valve episode was a saga hope they get it right this time . The vauxhall customer service sucks I should have stuck with hyundai , vauxhall could learn a thing or 2 from their attitude for sure !

yeah the problem of engine oil leakage is very serious for car as it can damage the engine badly and that may lead to more expensive repairs. I think it is either due to improper sealing of sump gasket or there is some defect in sump pan and the mechanic should do the job well to prevent there occurrenceof of irritating problem.

6th attempt today, in the process of rejecting the car now with vauxhall. Can't wait to get out of it

Almost got caught myself with the timing chain cover problem ALL be aware of this one will take 12 hours workshop @£80.00 an hour to repair. Dealer told me it is a common problem and this was the 4th one they have had to repair ( 2 weeks from end of 3 year warranty ) and this is not covered by the lifetime warrany as it is an external oil leak GET YOURS CHECKED

If you get the car on the ramps and remove the lower cover, all is revealed.

Sorry to bring back an old thread but did you get this resolved in the end ? I have same issue and the dealer wants 3 days to repair it !!

Just had mine for the sump gasket to be changed, dealer was not that confident that this the only leak, he also thinks the timing cover is leaking too!!

got to take it back in a weeks time to be checked.
