-in tensioning the new belt they may have gone slightly tighter than it was before - this could cause a noisy bearing or pulley to start squeeking
does this need to be remedied? I’m already pissed off with the garage that did it as the first replacement alternator failed after 3 weeks!

that's some bad luck. does it squeek worse when pulling away and then ease off (this would most likely be belt tension or wear)? or is it just squeeking at idle (more likely to be a bearing somewhere) -either way probably worth getting sorted. ultimately if the belt fails it shouldnt cause damage but it would leave you stranded
