Hi all, I've just joined the club and wanted to say hi on my first log-in.I have on order a new Antara SE, due to arrive some time in November.
I have read thru some of the topics on here, the one that at present interests methe most is the topic of a spare wheel. I like most on here, don't like the thought of not having a spare wheel in the car when travelling. I fully intend buying a spare as soon as I can find one to match and fit. Any suggestions pointing me in the right direction would be gratefully received with thanks. firstimer.

Hi firstimer and welcome to the forums

I fully intend buying a spare as soon as I can find one to match and fit.
I started a thread on this some time back.
If you can't find it I will post a link.

Basically, if you are going for a steel rim spare, it doesn't matter what size rims your present wheels use. ( 17" 18" or 19" )
The steel rim is available from Vauxhall for about £90 ( no tyre )
It is a 16" rim - but don't let this put you off.

Believe it or not the DIAMETER of the three rim sizes ( with appropriate tyres ) are all within about 1/4 inch. This is because the profile ( height at the wall ) is lower on the bigger rims.

The 16" steel rim is a 215 x 16 ( 6.5J ) ...... this must be Antara compatible ( obviously )
The tyre is a 215 x 70 x 16 - you can get this from anywhere.

The steel spare will fit in the well with no alterations to the well itself.
You just need to remove the central polystyrene section. ( I put mine in a skip !! )

If you go for an alloy spare you will find it is too wide and the floor panel will not close.

Hope this helps.

EDIT:
Just noticed .....we are almost neighbours

Found my original thread .....click here

Also ........ if you buy the steel rim from the place where you bought the car from - ask for discount on the rim. I got 10% off. ( worth being cheeky )

Hi all, just saying hello. I have recently bought an Antara se nav the (163). I have a twin axel caravan and intend to try out the antara this weekend. I have read a few negative reviews regarding the diesel, particulate filter!!! Do I need to worry?

I think most people on here are reasonably happy with the DPF.

I think you may experience a few problems if you are doing short journeys only.
If you do a few longish journeys during the month then you should be OK.

I am one who has not had any problems at all with the DPF - now on 3,500 miles

Thanks I think that I will take your advice, mines just done 3000 miles, beautiful car.
Hi KenB,Thanks for your reply. I have read the thread you kindly re-posted, thankyou.
I now intend to wait until my Antara arrives so I can get a look at the alloys and make of tyres already on the car. I would like to have the same in the boot as I have on the car, even if that means making some adjustment to the load space for it to fit, something I've read on here that needs to be done.

( I read this and your link, after I had put my "Newbie" post up ).

The Wirral is a big place, I do ride over that way with my wife on our road bikes, to Parkgate along the new cycle path.

Regards firstimer.
