Hi my new Antara is arriving on Wednesday. Hope I like it better than my last car (Mini Countryman - most uncomfortable car in the world).

Heidi Hi !

Sorry, that was pretty poor even by my standards

Firstly welcome to the forum and secondly, to endorse what the other guys have said, roll on Wednesday as I am sure that you'll love your new Antara.

Well my Antara finally arrived. Sadly I've had a fair bit of trouble starting on the forecourt of the garage. The gear linkage had popped off so I couldn't select a gear. A mechanic fixed it and promised me it wouldn't happen again, saying this sometimes happens during transport from the factory!. I accepted the handover and merrily drove on my way. 300 hundred miles later and the same has happened today. The dealer advised me to phone Vauxhall Assist, however after my husband insisting they sort it as they had sold me a faulty car, they arranged for the AA to come and look at it. The AA man took one look under the bonnet and said the problem was a twisted gear cable which would never stay on. He has written out a report for me to insist the Dealer replaces the cable. Lets see what they say in the morning. Quite a sad start to my Antara ownership. Apart from me losing all confidence in the car, I do love the way it looks, drives and comfort!

Hi Heidi and firstly congratulations on collecting your new car but I would imagine that that is where your excitement ended.

To be honest and I am talking as a layperson and not a mechanic, I just don't accept that the linkage "pops" out in transit when the AA man described the problem as a twisted gear cable. I can only imagine that the cable could be twisted when it was put on and not by any forces of nature.

I don't know what the situation is with the family transport situation but you do have an option to "reject" the car on the basis that it was sold to you faulty. Although this option may mean being car-less while Vauxhall order you another Antara, it may in the long run be better because you can start afresh and have more confidence in a new car. You also have the option of rejecting the faulty Antara and just cancelling your order all together.

In any event, I am sure that the AA man has sorted the problem (that should never have existed in the first place) and as they say, time is a great healer and you can win back confidence in your Antara. It is nice to read that while it was going the Antara afforded you the comfort and drive that you liked and that has to be a big factor in any decision.

we done that with a Renaultcoupe the brakes failed, and iwentstraitthrough a cross roads and a car just missed me, i was pregnant with our daughter at the time when i was driving it, we had lost faith in the car after that, had a legal battle with Renault , who then checked the car to find out that the car had lost brake fluid and they did not know how that happened, My husband and i done ademonstrationoutside Renault livingstone and Edinburgh with big boards and even got the local news papersinvolved< The Sun, Record and the West Lothian Courier, that was in 1997 i think the car was bran new as well, We even went down tothereheadquartersand sat outside with big boards they soon asked us in to speak with them, after that i had to come home as the stress was to much for me and i had my daughter at 30 weeks. So Heidi do not let them walk all over you tell them whats what they have sold you a faulty prduct

Either insist they fix the car at your convenience and reimburse you for the upset and stress as well as the in-convince, and insist they give you a replacement car until it is repaired or insist they take back the car as it is not fit for purpose, as they have sold you a unsafe product witch is faulty, the ball is in your court.Edited by: wilma08

Well the gear linkage has finally been replaced but sadly they damaged my beautiful car whilst doing it and now it has to go in for them to repair that! I do love my Antara though. Just a quick question, I purchased the Antara mats for my car (which has taken the dealer a month to get for me!) and they don't fit! Firstly, they are too wide and so fold up the sides of the car and secondly there is no hole on the passenger mat to accommodate the button on the floor (there is on the driver's mat). Anyone else had any problems with mats?
