Hi All,
Last summer I had a problem with the ignition key not being released when the gear stick was put into park. I could turn the engine off but the key would go no further. I used to hear a click in the steering column and the key would come out with no problem. Then occasionally it didn't click and so wouldn't come out. It got gradually worse so took it to Vauxhall who said it was the connection to the solenoid. I put the car in and they adjusted it. (2 hours labour @ £80 an hour).
Over the past couple of weeks I have started having the same problem, only this time I am hearing the click in the steering column but the key won't come out. Again the key only turns enough to switch the engine off but no further. I have to restart the car, put it into drive and then back to park (sometimes 2 or 3 times) to release the key. It is a bit hit and miss at the moment. I am just concerned that I won't be able to get the key out when I arrive at work and have to leave it unlocked with the key in.
Has anybody else had this problem and if so how have they solved it?
Vauxhall did quote me £136 for a new solenoid (plus labour) if it happened again. Obviously I would like to avoid dealer prices.
Kind Regards
Phil
