Ignition Key Stuck

Hi All,

Last summer I had a problem with the ignition key not being released when the gear stick was put into park. I could turn the engine off but the key would go no further. I used to hear a click in the steering column and the key would come out with no problem. Then occasionally it didn't click and so wouldn't come out. It got gradually worse so took it to Vauxhall who said it was the connection to the solenoid. I put the car in and they adjusted it. (2 hours labour @ £80 an hour).

Over the past couple of weeks I have started having the same problem, only this time I am hearing the click in the steering column but the key won't come out. Again the key only turns enough to switch the engine off but no further. I have to restart the car, put it into drive and then back to park (sometimes 2 or 3 times) to release the key. It is a bit hit and miss at the moment. I am just concerned that I won't be able to get the key out when I arrive at work and have to leave it unlocked with the key in.

Has anybody else had this problem and if so how have they solved it?

Vauxhall did quote me £136 for a new solenoid (plus labour) if it happened again. Obviously I would like to avoid dealer prices.

Kind Regards

Phil

Sounds daft but have you tried any lube or anything, one of my old cars started to become a bit stiff and a quick spray with some wd40 sorted it
Hi Grumps

it is an 09 and only done 26K miles
This is a point that puzzled me in the manual.

It says if the battery is flat the key cannot be removed, this strikes me as daft, you can't start the car and you can't leave the car for fear of it being nicked with no insurance cover.

What are you supposed to do if you don't have your mobile?

You can't take a walk to get help in case someone stops, jump starts and drives off in it..
I have a 2014 auto astra I was having the same problem key stuck in lock when in park just got a new ignition barrel still doing it HELP
