Hi everyone, have had the antara for 3 weeks now an 184ps manual. seems to be a good car, well until yesterday!its my wifes car so she is a little nervous that it might be something wrong!
car has only 1000miles so still under warranty

car has start / stop and duly stopped, but then it wouldnt start at all. even removing the key and trying to restart. called out recovery they couldnt start it. then as if by magic it started. is it the start stop system ? used the car today, but kept turning the ECO off and no problems is it connected?

also a couple of times have had a really bad burning smell, as if a plastic bag is on the exhuast, have a look around and nothing visible, the next drive nothing all ok.

any ideas? has this happened before i cannot see anything when i searched forum.

Hi mrrusty
The burning smell comes from the engine bay when the cooling fans on during the diesel partical filter self cleaning process they put waxes in the engine
Bay to stop corrosion and it smells when new nothing to worry about , as for the stop start think you need to get it checked out sounds like a fault .

Welcome to the forum MrRusty

Sorry to hear your having a few problems.

The burning smell as posted already is normal when the car is new and its going ttrough a DPF regeneration.

As for it not starting it obviously sound like a fault. I think your wife has experienced what everyone who is now getting used to start stop dreads happening and it doesn't fill you with confidence that the car will start every time. From experience it usually isn't a problem. So don't worry. It could either be the start stop function or it may even be an immobiliser issue that decided to stop the engine from restarting.

Probably better to get your dealer to check it out. unless they pick up an error code im pretty sure they will say they can't find anything.

It might never happen again. I had a few alarm issues when I got my Antara for some strange reason but now its fine no problems at all.

thanks for the speedy replies
i wish they would off given a bit more information on this DPF. as the smell is horrendous, hope your right about it dissapearing with age.
my wifes a community nurse so is driving most days and a lot of stop/starts. so cannot afford the car to stop completely! she thinks it maybe the ECO start-stop function. is there a way to disable this completely rather than having to turn it off every-time you start?

Hi mrrusty and welcome. Fortunately I haven't got the stop start but my wife has it on her Mokka, touch wood no problems yet. I do not believe that there is another way to turn off the eco button other than when you start up .
Big thumbs up to your wife for being a nurse.
