GM Begins Testing Mule for New Antara

As modern as it may still look on the outside, after seven years in the market, the Vauxhall Antara will be due for a replacement in the coming years.

The same applies to its Chevrolet sibling, the Captiva.

The development for the successors to the Captiva and Antara has begun in Europe, and will no doubt be sped up after GM's recent decision to invest €4 billion (US$5.25 billion) over the course of the next four years.

This new set of spyshots offers us our first look at a very early test mule that is used to develop the platform for the two SUVs, hidden under the shortened body of the Chevrolet Orlando minivan. A photo of the car's undercarriage reveals the 4x4 system, which is not available on the Orlando.

Named internally D2XX, the next Captiva and Antara's platform is a derivative of the architecture that will be used on the all-new 2015 Chevrolet Cruze and other compact models from GM. A new generation of smaller displacement and turbocharged petrol and diesel engines will provide power for the two SUVs.

Needless to explain, there's nothing to say about the looks of the Antara and Captiva since this is a test mule, but as is often the case, both Opel and Chevrolet are likely to preview the designs of their respective models with concepts in the very near future.

I'm not in the market for another car for 3 years. So will be interesting to see if the new one will be in production by then.

Nice to know they are at least working on a replacement for the Antara. I thought they might let it die when the Mokka came out.
Like Inchindown, I won't be in the market for a new car for at least three years so I too will be monitoring the situation from afar.

I read somewhere that Opel are in talks to build the "current" Antara in continental Europe from 2014 which will certainly cut down on the waiting time for delivery of the Vauxhall Antara, should they be included in the deal.

I can't put my finger on the article but will post it if or when I find it.
Who know they maybe working on an awd version of the Orlando. Im sure the next Antara will not be that different from the captiva replacement already available across the puddle. The Chevrolet equinox for example.Edited by: Grumps
In my opinion the "Orlando" is one ugly vehicle and if the new Antara happens to look anything like it, I'll not be interested.

I am not in the market for a new car before autumn 2016 so we will see then how satisfied I am with the Antara. Up to now and with 5000 Km, on the clock,I am very satisified. Even the Memsahib, when taking her to Porto airport at some ungodly hour this morning, remarked that she liked the car very much. As I say, and as this car is my forst Opel, I will see how it goes.
I do not attach much weight at all top the "Orlando's" exterior as much can be changed before it becomes a production vehicle.
So that's the family away back home then.

That has been a quick few weeks but probably just enough time for you and your wife to discuss your wife's new car

Any decision yet Stephen ?
