It has only taken 6 months but at long last managed to use the Antara to tow our 2014 Swift Celebration. Until now had to use the company Insignia which I always thought was a good tow car but wow the Antara is so much better.
Achieved 21mpg average which was pretty good considering all A roads with some climbs over the moors

Can't wait until the end of May when we are heading to the Caravan Club site at the Wirral

Yes certainly a good tow car, best I have had so far.
Yes have to agree. I tow a 1500kg Swift mostly on the West coast of Scotland. Best tow car I have ever owned.
Yep very competent tow car. The lowest mpg i ever got in our Antara was 19mpg and that was towing a 1700kg caravan from scottish borders down to the med so plenty of hills on route :).
Towed for the first time over Easter and the last bank holiday. What a cracking tow car. Cruise set to 60mph on the motorway and left it there. No dramas, no worries

Can only reiterate what everyone else says, yep its a great tow car.
Oddly we have just comeback from wirral country park Clubsite today ,its a great site were due back first weekend in June. Also I previously owned an insignia but thought the insignia was an equally impressive vehicle on tarmac at least . The only drama I've had with the antara is trying to complete a regen whilst towing on slow moving A roads during which time fuel consumption dropped to 28mpg
Still not bad though considering you lugging the caravan about

Towing using fifth or sixth gear!!
Should I try and use sixth gear or stay in fifth whilst on motorway around 55mph.
I haven't got mpg display so any suggestions appreciated.
thanks.

Well its time to get rid of the antara its only a 2lt diesel 2009, only had it 9 months but i have never had such a car that drinks fuel like its going out off fashion.

Has for towingI must be the only one not to agree with the comments made howwell it towsI think not.
I'm going back to the Nissan X-Trail it knocks spots off the Antara more comfort and alot better fuel consumption, when towing or solo

Hi, I tow in 5th gear. 6th gear is a little hard on the engine. I get approx. 28mpg when towing, mainly motorway. I did get lower, but now I have covered 9000mls from new, the engine is a lot better.
Hi. We've just finished our summer towing and must say it was great. We covered around 900 miles with van on and 450 solo. I'm afraid I have no mpg figures as I wanted my wife to keep smiling!!! It wasn't too bad really. Its very sure footed even in the remnants of hurricane Bertha. I found fifth the best gear to be in for the majority of the time and can't wait for next outings. There were a few other outfits around and they all looked great.

The 2.2 is much better than the older 2.0
The worst car for petrol without a doubt was the Ford Explorer 2.2 auto we loved that car we kept it for 13 years on the motorway we would get 20 to 22 miles to the gallon the comfort and style plus SAFTY done it for us the next two worst car for us was the Nissan Pathfinder 2.5 diesel but it had less power than my Antara it was also 250 k heavier than Antara but the same mileage about 34 to 37!miles to gallon the Nissan might have been top of the range but the gears and the handling were crap compaired to the Antara which is 2.2 184bps SENAV.
The other car was the Nissan Terrano now that was ultra crap could not do anything that any other 4x4 could do.
