We got a 2012 Antara last year with only 43,000 miles on it but we've had a few problems. A few months ago it started to turn over but not start, sometimes it would start straight away, othertimes it might need three or four attempts.
The other day it was totally dead and turning the key just made a click. I charged the battery and no luck. On calling the RAC they advised it was the starter motor so I booked in to the garage.
A week later on the morning we were going to the garage the car started no issues, we took it in and they said it was starting fine but likely an issue with the starter motor and flywheel . Said they could hear a slight noise from the engine and that the flywheel was likely the cause of the problems with the starter motor and needed replacing. If we don't do the flywheel a new starter will go again in the future. We don't have any other symptoms with gears or clutch that might indicate a problem with the flywheel and it's a very expensive repair.

Does this sound right, any advice ?
Thanks all in advance.

A failing dual mass flywheel can spread metal dust and particles around the bell housing area contaminating the starter and causing it to fail. If you just replace the starter the new one is likely to fail too.

Hi, I am currently have exactly the same issues! I have also been told it’s dual mass fly wheel causing the issue, I’m booked in to get new one and clutch fitted next week.

Im replacing mine myself , after being quoted 800-1500 for just doing the clutch. Glad i decided to do it myself now as i have found that the dualmass on mine is toast. From what i have been reading they are not very good on these cars, with quite a few problems associated with them. If your getting the Flywheel changed get them to change the clutch as well and tell them to keep the old clutch as you want it. Too many cowboy garages out there that will just change the friction disc and leave the slave and pressure plate in the car. At least if they give you the parts they took out you will know they have done it for sure.
