engine management light PRESTON lancashire

Hi after some advice please, the engine management light has come on, on our 63 plate antara. we have taken to local garage and they have said need to take to vauxhall specialist as they need a special diagnostic machine to delve down into it, I dont really want to use the main dealers as heard bad reports. we live in preston lancashire can anyone recommend a local garage to help at all TIA
