DRL's - Exclusiv Model

Done to death on another Antara forum.
Many discussions on how they aren't really DRL's on the SE model.
Various aftermarket options offered.
Even visiting the dealers to have them switched off.

Having the Exclusiv I don't have DRL's but do like to have my lights on, especially when towing.

By accident I have just found out that if I leave my headlights on, and turn the engine off, the lights go out, so as not to flatten the battery.
Wondered why I have never heard a lights on chime.
Soon as I start up again the headlights come back on.

So there you have it poor mans DRL's.

Mat

Oh and yes you can override it should you want your headlights on whilst the engine is off.
Just turn them off and on again.

Mat, I too like to drive with my lights on and was pleasantly surprised to find in place the system that you have described in your post. I just leave my side lights on all the time, safe in the knowledge that once the engine is shut down, the power to the lights is cut.

I suppose this is a form of DRL's but not really as I anticipated when I first told that the AWD Antara Exclusiv came with DRL's as standard.
Like you guys I always leave my lights on.

A Gentleman who lives near by has an Exclusive model and claims that he's had his lights set to Antara standard Drls by his dealer but I'm not quite sure how as he wouldn't have an auto setting.

Hi Dilligaf,

As you rightly state, there is no auto setting for the lights in the Exclusiv range. The only thing that I can think of is that your neighbour had factory fitted bi-xenon headlights added as an "extra".
I was a little disappointed that I didn't have DRL on our 2014 exclusive however its not too difficult to turn lights on when the weather is a little murky. Isn't it strange how times change. I remember when I was young (Only just) all the jokes that were made about Volvo lights!!!
My dealer today, sort of acknowledged that there is a DRL setting on mine but it actually involves a dual filament lamp! Never heard that before, but he certainly didn't say DRL? Oh no Sir it doesn't have those. They are NOT some fancy LED thing they are the same unit as the side lights it seems but I only have the 5 candle power orange glow bulbs in mine. There is a 21w additional element to this. This may explain the additional DRL fuse that I have in my fuse board. I'm not desparate to have them, I just like a mystery. He did say that he thought that I might be able to have either the DRL setting OR the auto lights but not both. What?

Well we'll see tomorrow.
