Good Eveneing,

I am just wondering how long does a clutch usually last on a car? I tow a fair bit but usually on long stretches of roads and dont get much smell from the clutch when towing.

I dont really give the car a thrashing either!

I thought i would have a look to see how much a clutch replacement would be with VX and suprise suprise, its expensive at £770 for the whole lot but thats just the parts so you would have to add labour to that!

Has anyone got to the piont of changing their clutchs??

I understand that some clutches have failed (assumed pressure plate rivets) and been repaired under warranty. Normal use, even with when used for towing, I would expect at least 80,000mls. My last jag was on the original clutch and discs (not pads) and had done over 100k.Largely depends on your driving. Probably lady drivers go through clutches at a shorter rate

Q Wilma ?

I have replaed the clutch, but not due to it failing

I had the slave cylinder fail and whilst the gearbox was dropped replaced the dual mass flywheel, clutch kit and slave cylinder changed. All cost £950 including labour at my local garage.

Car has 70,000 on it and there was a little play in the dual mass flywheel, so not really worth paying the labour a second time round in approx 20 - 30,000 miles.

Labour in the above price was £340, was suprised at how cheap the parts were
