A couple of days ago I started getting a sort of screechy noise when I moved off. It seemed to me like the clutch thrust bearing. A local mechanic was of the same opinion so my vehicle was dropped off at a VX dealers tonight ready for them to have a look at it tomorrow.

The noise wasn't as bad today and VX dealer not sure if it is clutch bearing. They are going to consult VX to see if they have any knowledge of any similar problems and advice on how to proceed

My car has been into the VX dealers again today and yet again they cant't make their minds up as to what it is. The problem is that the noise is not there all the time...it comes and goes. When it is at it worst pedestrians turn round and have look to see what it is although it is never that loud whenI take it to the dealers...very annoying

VX have suggested that it can only get worse so canI use the vehicle until it does get worse and they will stand a better chance of diagnosing the fault. I am still thinking about this although the 3 R's springs to mind

Repair...Replace...Refund

Hi Piddy,

Is this noise that you are getting loudest when the car is first used from cold, after it`s been standing for a few hours, or over night etc ?, and does it get less as the car is used and warmed up, until it almost seems to disappear completely ?. And is it even worse the colder the Weather is ?.

It is not really affected by anything, it just does it as and when it feels like it...Its just a typical dodgey clutch release bearing, have had quite a few of them over the years. The mechanic is looking too far into it, instead of starting off with simple things he has gone straight for complicated like it may be the flywheel springs etc.
To me the answer is box out, new clutch bearingin and am convinced problem will be solved

I have emailed the supplying dealer and explained that despite having the vehicle into a VX dealers on two separate ocaasionsthe problem has not been sorted.
In view ofa refusal to repairI have asked for a replacement vehicle or a refund. Am sure that will get a reapir

The car is clearly not fit for the purpose and express this to them state that if nothing is done in regards to this vechical then you are well within your rights to reject the car as they have broken an agreement in selling you a deffective car and that you will be in touch with vechical omnibus-man As well And your lawyer and never mind local and national press, and watch dog, let them know that you are not just going to go away and that you will take action,
Thatt will set the wind up them plus get the email or phone number of one of the directors of Vauxhall

Good luck
Ps been there and done that with Renault

Have had no response from the dealer so have sent a recorded delivery letter to their head office. It will be with them tomorrow morning when they open for business.

Have given them till Friday to come an arrangement to sort outthis debacleprior to handing it all over to trading standards

Latest update is that I have not heard anything from anybody with regards the problem.
They didn't really leave me with any option but to place the matter into the hands of our local Trading Standards Department

Am now sat back and waiting for the brown stuff to hit the fan

To be honestI never actually threaten anybody because they then know as much asI do.I like to just do things without warning and catch them on the hop so to speak.

Being forewarned is being forearmed andI like to catch them unarmed. As yet the dealer has no idea that trading standards are coming until tomorrow morning

Sounds like a good plan, I hope it all goes well.

My 2 week old 2013 Antarra broke down last week with clutch problems, only 500 miles on the clock.

Been on a ramp all week, no parts in UK or Germany, no date yet for repair.

To be fair I have unlimited hire car, but I am still considering my options.

Hi Rebb and welcome to the forums

You are not alone re clutch problems - at least 2 others here have had similar issues.
One of the members tells of VX accusing them of "riding the clutch" ...... not sure how that was resolved.

500 miles is nothing.

I assume that the dealer is covering the cost of this one ?

When I spoke to Vauxhall Customer Don'tCare Servicesaround 2 weeks ago they basically told me that I had been the only person in the country with a clutch problem as they had no other reported cases ?????????

Looks like I have found out something that they are good at.
