Broken Antara! Please help!

Hi There

I have 2007 07 Antara 2.0cdti 150 bhp model, currently has 66000 miles on it. I havnt used the car for a while due to ordering a new Mokka but the time came to sell the Antara and its started being strange!

It is behaving as if the Turbo isnt responding, I have very little mechanical expertise but do have a DIY code reader

It was coming up with P0047 and P0234 which i believe is the EGR vacuum solenoid. The vehicle will only rev to 3500 rpm and struggles to get to any decent speed.

I have had a new EGR vacuum solenoid fitted and this hasnt sorted it.

The local mechanic suggests it may be the DPF blocked or exhaust system blocked. Don't want to commit to expensive fixes in case anyone knows of a better fix!

Really want to avoid taking it to my local vauxhall dealer aswell!

Please help guys!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Jonezy welcome to the forum, have you done any research on the net
My husband had a problem with his Captivia the sister car to the Antara he was loosing power and the revs would go down, sometime she would hear a whooshing sound, car was only 18 months old so took it to the garage they checked it and it was the turbo pipe had loosened as the clip had snapped in two, they had to order it as it was a single unit once fixed everything was back to normal, might be that
Are you trading it in for the Mokka if so just hand it over and say nothing the dealer will fix it no problem or they will send it to auction and it will be someone elses problem.
Too right that's what I done with a MG ZT turbo the engine had went left the dog in the car until I picked up my new car , then took the dog out the old car and drove away without a care in the world laughing away to myself , cause the dog stopped them from driving the car and finding out the engine had went lol
Done what other garages do to others
Hi, Thank you! I havehad a look online and tried a few things but hasnt seemed to work, I will check the turbo pipe though. Its probably something horrendously simple but really not obvious!

I was offered £4500 as a trade in price but thought i would try sell private before the Mokka is due (April 2014) Failing that it will be traded in!

Thank you all for a prompt response!

Have you tried we buy any car .com we always use them you get a really good price from them we never trade in anymore Garages think your stupid and offer crape prices
If its a problem with the DPF I would have thought the system would have given you some warning. The light on the dash would have came on.

Try some other simple things before worrying about turbo etc. As Wilma suggested make sure all pipes are secure and with no holes or blockages.

The egr valve you had fitted was it new. Because they are pretty expensive. And most of the time all they need is a good clean.

You could always try cleaning the mass airflow sensor. Pickup a tin of cleaning spray on eBay for a tenner and give it a good blast.

Again all these things usually give you dash warning and throw up a code.
You say they changed the EGR soenoid, was that including the EGR ?. If not I would look at the EGR itself. If you are saying that it feels like the turbo not kicking , if the EGr is stuck open it would give a similar affect. I had this on my last car. Simple fix is too remove the EGR and clean it using a carburettor cleaner. You will probably find it is really black sooted up. Where it is on your Antara engine I do not know.

Kinda what I was thinking and I'm not sure the garage actually replaced it because they are expensive but as you say all they need is a clean most of the time.
Ok guys. I'll go out and try that. Amazed by the response.

Many Thanks

Hi, That's exactly what happened to an x-type Jaguar I owned.Clip refitted - bingo.I would also try putting in some fuel additive and go for a run on the motorway, see what happens.

Good point Chris about the fuel additive I have a diesel corsa that does 2.5k miles a month and it had a major hesitation that the dealer couldn't fix after two goes. I thought it was a fuel thing and asked them to check for water in the filter etc but they couldn't find anything so I put the same millers additive that I use for the Antara in and its never bothered it again. I don't use it all the time just every 2-3 months I will treat one tank full.
