Antara Service Parts.

Afternoon all, having just had the 2nd service on my Antara. I've been informed by local dealer the rear pads need changing. At a cost of £150. Can anyone tell me if I have to stick with the dealer to have the pads changed or can I go to my local trusted garage and have the pads changed there for £60.

Also does then affect the lifetime warranty??

Many Thanks.

Hi Chingster, your brake pads are wearable items so not covered by warranty anyway, getting a local garage to do it cheaper is no more different than doing it yourself. Just make sure they use a quality pad not some cheap import
Thanks for super quick reply Off Road Doc!

I just can't understand how the dealer can justify such a price. I queried with the service dept, that if I had them changed with my local garage, that they would then have to carry out a health check to ensure the brakes were right. I sense this a rouse and smell something in the air!!

So I'm right in saying, if I go to my local garage, as long as they use tidy pads. My warranty will be unaffected.

Thanks again.
Be careful as far as I know YOU CAN ONLY USE VAUXHALL PARTS otherwise you will invalidate the warranty I know they are only brake pads but if they broke up or the lining detaches from the backing which can happen the resulting damage would NOT be covered under warranty.

Use your local garage but make sure they use genuine parts would be my suggestion
Thanks for reply Lawrence, I've purchased the pads from my local dealer direct and car will be going to local garage to fit them tomorrow. Is it something that you have done in the past regarding parts, to avoid inflated charges?
hi I run a small fleet of vans so have lots of issues as you can imagine.

The law was changed some years ago preventing manufacturers from being the sole providers for servicing.

Anti competition law

So now you can have a vehicle serviced anywhere as long as the manufacturers schedule is followed and you use genuine parts your warranty remains intact.

However this does not preclude the possibility that if there was a problem the dealer might claim your garage did not do the job right !
I assume there are no special tools required? I was going to replace the front discs on mine and pads you see!!
thanks
pads are easy to change but discs are harder and I've never changed them myself

If your not sure get a quote from a local small garage I've had work done and been charged £35 hour all in so hardly worth doing it yourself.
Front and rear discs and pads
My 2011 facelift 2,2 exclusive had it`s MOT in June + 3rd. service it had just over 13,000 miles on her. Discs on front described as pitted. Suggest change of discs at pad change. some 1000 miles later discovered front brakes were binding took it to local garage (brilliant) guy. sorted out. Took it back to the dealer, told I need new discs F & B plus pads, Cost £1716 .60. How can Vauxhall justify this > Took it back to the local guy, who obtained good quality discs and pads fitted awaiting bill, he scoffed at the Vauxhall costs. Seriously thinking of changing away. Cannot wait to see response of Dealership when they get survey. Even taking into account the lack of use over three years, I would expect discs costing in the region of £300:00 each corner minimum to be able to withstand anything. Disgrace. Beware. Unknownmale.

I have a vauxhall Antara Exclusive on a 12 plate with 35k on the clock and vauxhall have just changed the front and back pads on its last service and it was going to cost over £200. Luckily for me the garage did a mistake on the cost for the pads and i was only charged £80 for the lot!!

I asked my garage how much would the pads and discs be front and back and it would cost £800 on the front and £840 for the back. I was shocked at the stupid prices so i went to Halfords auto centre and asked them for a price and its £800 for the whole lot and thats with free second set of pads!!
Guess what ill be doing when my pads wear out!

I dont understand why everything is so expensive on the Antara?? The servicing at the vauxhall garages are un real!! i asked halfords auto centre for a price and they do everything much cheaper with genuine parts and they even do more on the service than what vauxhall do for example the brake fluid needs changing after two years, vauxhall charge for this, Halfords don't as its included in the price.

There is no reason why you can't do what ill be doing and use a halfords auto centre or another garage as long as they use genuine parts. All you do once the service has been done is go to your garage and get your warranty renewed just keep a hold of your receipt with the part sets on it!!
I have even been told you don't even need to use genuine parts as long as its the same product it just doesn't has vauxhall on it!

Aye Mr. Antara12, I already have had the discs and pads done, not by Vauxhall, by the local guy. I was sorely tempted to try myself but was wary. Do not know what it is costing yet but will update the group may be helpful. Save others getting ripped off.

evening fella`s, can anybody tell me whats involved on the 2nd service on my antara as i cant seem to find any information in the books supplied with the car.i`m getting the service done by a friend on mine who owns a garage hes quoted me about £200.00 i just want to make sure he does all whats needed for the warranty,<div -redactor="1" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; color: rgb20, 20, 20; font-family: Tahoma, Georgia, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.5333347320557px; : rgb249, 249, 249;">many thanks nick
Welcome to the club mokkerboy, your second service should be the same as your first one. Oil and filterchanged, air filter checked and cleaned, tyres checked, brakes checked, oil levels checked etc.

thanks murphy1 but why the big jump in price from the 1st service !!!!
here is a list from my 2nd. service Antifreeze check, Brake fluid, engine oil/filter. replace pollen filter, ( replaced key fob battery reset service light carried our lifetime reactivation and anti perforation check washed and hoovered. Advise all tyres on 5mm. £254;00 £57:62 for engine oil. Report on pads and discs front pads 60% discs slightly worn. rear pads 50 to 60% discs slightly worn. Mileage at 2nd service 10,402. Mileage at 3rd. service 13,703 wait for it pads rear approx 50% discs o/k so the car had done 3,300 miles since 2nd. discs went from slightly worn to o/k. When I took it back as I had a prob with brakes, all 4 corners were needing changed at a cost of £1716:60. After arguing I was informed by the foreman, that the front did not need changed. I would not believe them if they told me the sun rose in the east. Still awaiting the bill from a local garage who changed all 4 a few weeks ago. A small independent, yet Vauxhall I would have had to pay at the time, and a helluva lot more will advise the forum on eventual cost. then Vauxhall will be getting a wee letter.

changed 4 corners pads and discs.
i folks just an update on the costs of my Antara 4 corners, I was quoted £1,760 or thereabouts by Vauxhall to do all 4. Just got my bill from local guy, £530, that includes previous wee job he did on brakes when they siezed a bit on the front. why the massive difference is my question, surey the stuff Vauxhall uses does not justify three times the cost, especially as my discs only lasted approx 15,000 miles/
Completely flummoxed by Vauxhall pricing!Have a "fitted" quote in front of me for new front discs & pads & rear pads only - £1020.60 wtf!!!
How the hell do they get to that?

Simple online search (Ferodo & Brembo) for front discs & pads;
Discs- around £120 for a pair.
Pads -around £40 for2 pair.
Brake Fluid - around £50.
Plus sundries - grease, spring clips, cleaner etc - say £50
Longest Youtube guide for changing pads & discs 22mins (Europarts) x 2 - lets say an hour for the fitting plus another for any testing bleeding etc etc...

So materials £260 ish.
Labour £50/hr - £100 ish.
Waste disposal - £50?
Sub-total - £410
Tax +20% - £82
Total - £492 (not far off your mates £530 unknownmale!)
Quoted - £831.60
That's £339.60 or 41% profit

What recession???

At this moment they won't be getting my business, waiting for some comparative quotes to come back...

My first service is due in Dec and I have been e.mailing backwards and forwards with parts prices ect....Anyway, cut a long story short Reg. Vardy will do the service for£109 with vat, BUT I have to take my own oil. I already have 20L of dexos 2 (cost me £17/5L) from a main dealer, so sorted.

You can haggle with main dealers. I told them I'm on a very tight budget and been quoted by my local garage £X's and they will use VX parts.
They came back with the above price, so £126 in total
