Hi all just joined the forum after owning my first Antara 2.2 SE NAV Manual. All the issues with the car are very much just what they are but here is a new one I think.
In the last few months when I first switch on the Air Con it smells like bad sweaty socks I mean bad, just a horrible damp smell that eventually bgoes away but, this has never hapened before in any vaulhall car I have had roughtly about 15 never had an issue with smelly Air Con. Anyone come accross this before?

The air con unit has a drain on it . You can sometimes see water dripping from under the car. This can block and hold water so if air con is not used will smell . You can also have it cleaned I think they spray something into it to kill any germs that can build up. I think the antara air con must suffer with water build up as a lot of people have trouble with misting up of the windscreen. With modern car it is better to use the air con quite oftern as not using it to save fuel will cost more in the long run as not using it cause problems with it.
Are car is a year old and we have never had trouble with the air con or misting so hope you get yours sorted
Hi, used a can on my last car. Just put the air con on full. Put the air vent to recirculation (no outside air coming in). Set can to spray, place in foot welland shut the car door for 10 mins. Job done.
Will not sort the smell if a drain is blocked.
Someone's been farting smell not a smelly socks I no who it is though it's the bloody dog and no spray can take it away and what makes it worse is using the circulation in the car, only thing for it is either throwing the dog out or windows open, kidding aside I had a big problem yesterday with misting what can be done because I use the air con all the time as I am always too warm when I drive Edited by: wilma08
Sometimes it will mist up fast if you climb a hill as the out air temp will change fast. If you can keep the screen warm it will help with the aircon on. Even open a window a bit will help. I have a ford as well as the antara and putting on the heated screen works in seconds.
I use the air con on but not auto then use the vent control switch to feet and screen or screen only. Then set the fan to the speed you want. The auto setting needs changing as it will turn off the air to the screen and send it out the dash vents. Are old mini on auto would always send air to the screen as well as other vents.
This is on a se nav the others will be different
If you are out on a dry sunny day use the fan to help dry out the heater unit when ever you can in the winter.

Reminds me of a wife that caught her husband cheating. Divorced him and he got the house. She went round when he was out and put prawns and mackerel in his curtain rail.
He noticed the smell a few days later but could not find it. He eventually moved houseand the best bit is he took the curtain rail with him.

Mine was the same, change the pollen filter and get an air bomb, you get bacteria growing inside the air ducts and the air bomb kills it....

thanks for the tips. can someone advise where the pollen filter and drain plug are? and where can you get an air bomb from. thanks
Sorry but all mine is done with the service, but you can get the bombs off the internet for about £8
Similar problem with mine at the moment. So going to get it back to Arnold Clarks as it was part of the service.

Pollen filter lives behind the glove box, 6 screws to undo.
Handy to know Roadster, how much does a pollen filter cost?
Honest John in The Daily Telegraph suggests running the aircon on max heat full blast for a while to kill the bacteria, then use the aircon regularly all year to keep the seals in good condition. No additives or capsules etc.
