What the hell are Vauxhall thinking

Having been giving some thought to an eventual replacement for my Antara, I have begun to wonder what the heck Vauxhall/Peugeot are thinking.
I imagined that the Grandland X would be the replacement for the Antara but when looking into the options I find that the Grandland X is considerably smaller than the Antara and would certainly not be suitable for my needs.
Looking at the table below it seems that the Grandland X is the Peugeot 3008 badged as Vauxhall when I expected that it would in fact be based on the Peugeot 5008!!


On that basis it seems that Vauxhall will be ruling themselves out of the large SUV market which is a great shame.


Further it seems that the newly launched Crossland X is smaller than the Mokka X!!


So it looks as though after owning more Vauxhalls than I care to remember my brand loyalty of over 50 years will probably have to be set aside for another make!!

Wait until they bring out there new model that can only tow a empty trailer on the back
I thought the grandad X was going to be inline with the big boys toys that could tow at least 2500 kg to 3000kg looks like a great disappointment for VX/Peugeot shame on you

A lot of these SUV type vehicles are pure kidology. The Mokka is (or was) Corsa-based, the Ford Kuga is Focus-based, the original Nissan Qashqai was Almera-based. I read a while back that the Hyundai IX35 had a shorter wheelbase than the Astra. Little wonder a lot of these are unstable with their high centre of gravity and short wheelbase and like going through the hedge.

I saw the ad for it on telly last night and thought the same...until I just read your post.


Im assuming the boot capacity is equally appalling....I really cant find anything I like that can match the Antara at a reasonable price....that I also like the look of.... #ImAPickyGit

I wonder how the weight of the new Grandland compares with the Antara. Vauxhall state the weight of the Antara as 2345kg but the V5 says it's 2505kg and this seems to affect the weight of van it can tow. There's also the drivers licence – if you passed the test after Jan 1997 - as to whether you need to take an extra test to qualify for towing.

I'm only hazy about all these requirements because I don't tow with mines but there's quite a few members on here who do so the towing capacity of the new one is going to be an issue.

The figures I have found are:-

Boot Capacity Grandland X 514 - 1652 Litres (seats up/down) Antara 420 - 1420 Litres (suprisingly less than Grandland!!)


Max Tow GrandlandX 1100 - 1400 Kg (depending on engine)
Antara ???????


Weight (Gross) Grandland X 1930 - 2020 Kg (depending on engine)
Antara 2345 - 2505 Kg (from Victor above)

Forget the Antara......... I'm in love...... just saw the new Jaguar SUV today, lovely deep metallic red - it's a cracker. Going to a Jag showroom somewhere - anywhere - to get me some posters / brochures / photos, whatever. I'll retire to my man cave to rip all the other stuff off the walls and drool over the Jag.

A man can dream, can't he?

Well, I may have just changed my mind, could be heading to a showroom soon....! Its boot space I crave tbh for what I carry, you know how big those Stormtrooper suits are...

Perhaps Vauxhall has misjudged again. Certainly the Antara was not a rip-roaring success; the trade reviews were poor (from which it didn't recover). On the bright side it left a small stock of virtually new later vehicles for sale at bargain prices and - conversely - quite a few owners praised the Antara when used as a tow vehicle. On the latter point there doesn't seem to be a capable tow vehicle in the new Vauxhall range, nor in any other mid-priced manufacturer's range for that matter. The trend appears to be smaller petrol engines with brisk acceleration and fuel economy set within a lighter weight body. Probably good at carting around five people on the airport run, or nipping to the cash and carry, but no good at towing a 1500kg average caravan up hill and down dale over a sustained period (without revving its guts out). Where the many caravan and trailer owners (and their manufacturers) go from here in a year or two's time, I don't know. Electric might be the best way, after all trains don't do a bad job with heavy loads - but they are continuously supplied with volts on the way. The alternative is to cherish what you have already!
