Have you noticed that there doesn't seem to be a lot of choice of Antara rear spoiler options? Because I like a good deal I decided to cast a non-expert net a little wider to see what else is out there, and thought I'd share the results with my fellow Antarians (sounds a bit sci-fi, doesn't it?)

Looking further afield was interesting, as my Antara is a 2013 SE model, a body shape that is marketed under different names abroad, so included in the search were spoilers that fitted either a 2008 to 2010 Windstorm Maxx, Captiva, or Saturn Vue. Colour matching outside of Europe is also challenging, as it means matching a different code to my Vauxhall paint code of Sovereign Silver Z176 GAN. So, here's what I found:

UK Spoilers
Irmscher seem to be the 'gold standard', but that's maybe because there doesn't seem to be any competition in the UK. Anybody know another good UK supplier?

Irmscher Spoiler - £288.90 unpainted
LMF Vauxhall, at http://www.lmfvauxhall.co.uk/Spoilers-c-2134/

Irmscher Spoiler - £295.00 unpainted
Irmscher Direct, at http://www.irmscher-direct.co.uk/exterior-styling/92-antara-front-radiator-grille-pre-facelift.html

Also, I'm guessing that it would be between £50 and £100 to paint, a cost that needs to be added making these seem quite expensive.

Chinese Spoilers
YiSiTong Spoiler - £191.94 primered & shipped
This seems a reasonable deal at $200 plus $100 shipping, painted or primer, and it actually looks quite nice in the photos. I contacted them via Alibaba, and very quickly had a response. Good service, as interestingly, my email had been accurately translated and summarised, so we were on the same page, no language barrier which was good. Not sure they do colour matching though, they only seem to offer black or silver as options, and indeed suggested that I opt for a primer finish. Take a look here: http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/70...el_ANTARA.html

American Spoilers
T5i Spoiler - £162.44 painted & shipped
CarID have this spoiler at 20% off so it works out at $254 including shipping, painted.
http://www.carid.com/2010-saturn-vue...er-913734.html
I was very impressed with CariD customer service, a reply came back almost instantly asking for paint codes, and they quickly provided the quote above. They also seem to have a very well set up computerised process, and offered Paypal as a payment method. CariD set me a link to identify the paint: http://www.carid.com/paintcodes.php?...=Vue&year=2010

I was able to cross-reference the Saturn code to the GM paint code here: http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?gmcode=WA636R&rows=50&syear=2 010&smanuf=GM&smodel=Pontiac&sname=Switchblade Silver

The GAN code is most important, and this seems to equate to quite a few GM colour names, all with similar codes, so GM 17/636R/GAN/WA636R Switchblade Silver Metallic appears to be a match. I hope that's right!

Sportwing Spoiler - £103.64 painted & shipped
These guys have a really impressive deal on eBay at only $19 per spoiler because of colour overstock, so I enquired, and had a good response via eBay. The total cost is $161.95 re-painted, which works out at £103.64.(this included the cost to repaint this spoiler GAN silver, an additional $70, and the cost to ship to UK which was $72.95 via USPS Priority Mail). See here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/360729572902...S:1123&vxp=mtr

So, which one?
As I would probably need to paint the YiSiTong spoiler, I decided that it was too expensive to take the risk on this one. The Sportwing offered excellent value and buyer security via eBay, but it does look a 'bigger' spoiler, & I would have liked to see one on an Antara or Vue to help me decide.I guess it's a matter of taste, but I've chosen to go with the T5i, as I preferred the look of this one - although it was hard to decide given the poor quality photos on all of the sites. The T5i spoiler will come painted in the correct silver, presents a good saving over the cost of an Irmscher and CariD customer service gave a good impression. They say it will take 2-3 days to paint, with 12 September being the estimated shipping date.

I didn't really expect a company in the US to be cheaper than buying from China, but there you go, the world is changing - it really is a global market economy now, and we all vote with our wallets :-) It's going to be interesting to see how long it takes to arrive, if the paint's the correct colour shade, how much import duty to pay, and if it fits correctly etc. Lot's of questions still, but the way I see it, if I've saved a couple of hundred then that's my side bars for free

So, what do you guys think - have I made the right choice, or will my american deal be 'spoilered' and the dream of cheap 'bars' simply 'wing' itself away? [hey I heard you groan then!]

Personally I would stick to an irmscher one. Shop around for the best price.

Then you need to find a body shop to paint and bond it on.

If it helps I am currently in the USA and seen loads of Chevy Captiva's which is an Antara's and not like the captiva we get, the equinox, vue and terrain all appear to have different back ends and windows, also I believe Saturn stopped trading during the recession and the equinox looks a similar age so guess these are old parts

The equinox is based on a different chassis. The captive over in the states was know as the Saturn Vue as you say but GM then decided to bring it back for fleet users that's why you will find loads of them in Orlando etc as hire cars

Look here

And here

Here

Interestingly the U.S models are built in Mexico. Maybe Vauxhall should order its parts from there instead of Korea
