Start Stop Finally Sorted.

Hi All, for information

Finally sorted my start stop out, now working perfectly.

Bit of history, When I bought my 2.2 exclusive around the start of 2019 the motor trader fitted a new battery, an 068, which is actually for the petrol engine car not the diesel. In July 2019 I replaced the starter motor and ever since doing this the start stop rarely worked, only ever when going on holiday after a long run. I put this down to the battery being the incorrect type.

Recently this battery failed and I have replaced it with an 019AGM Start Stop battery which is a little more appropriate for my car. Took the car for a drive and initially the Start Stop started working but then reverted back to its non operating mode.

So, this morning, using my code reader I went into the engine ECU and found an error with all 4 glow plugs not working, I traced the fault to the glow plug power lead being disconnected which happened when I replaced the starter motor last year, School Boy error I know !
This had tripped a DTC fault in the ECU and disabled the start stop.
I reconnected, cleared the codes and now works as good as new.

So the moral of the story is if your Start Stop is not working it may be nothing to do with the actual start stop system, its the car creating a condition to prompt you to take it to the servicing dealer to get the real root cause fixed. Clever these cars !

Hope that makes Sense. Richy

Well done mate. I had a similar issue after working on my old merc. For some.reason one of the indicators stopped working and the washer pump would squirt when I indicated. Oddly if I used the hazards with washers behaved fine. Confused I thought I had a earth fault however it was a simple case of plugging in the indicator to the washer pump and vice versa. This took months to sort and delayed a mot test just due to a school boy error.
