Turbo black smoke?

Hi everyone I'm new to the site, never had any trouble with my antara until now, I wonder, can anyone tell me where the pipe that could have holes or a split in is situated,I have the exclusiv 2.2 4x4 model 2012, got black smoke coming from exhaust specially when I pull away at traffic lights, when I got home I noticed it was coming into the car when the wind was facing me, had a look under the bonnet and at the front I'm assuming is the turbo, there is black soot, just wondered if you could point me in the right direction before I have to take the car into the garage,is it, if it is a pipe, doable for me to fix, thanks for any help anyone may be able to give me.

Hi Winston

Easiest way is to look for oil on the turbo pipes, if you have a turbo leak on a hose then you normally see a deposit of oil around the leak. I had issues with a Mondeo once a that was how I found it. Unfortuniately when your looking under the boonet the engine is not under load and so the turbo isn't operating so you cannot find the leak by listening for it.

Black smoke would suggest unburnt diesel. Could be several things. I would be inclined to suggest egr or injector issue or a sensor has gone down.

Is there any warning light on the dash?

I would be tempted to take it to a garage for diagnosis. If there is a film of black soot in the engine bay then something is really not right. You can sometimes get spotting around the turbo actuator which is normal.
