New to the site and need a little bit of help on what bearing numbers are used in the transfer box on a 2011 Antara 2.2 diesel. I have been under the car tonight and have found the bearing at the offside driveshaft interface appears to have failed as there as excessive vertical lift at this point. I am pretty confident that I have found it in time to avoid totalling the transfer box and will be taking it out as soon as possible but would appreciate help from anyone who knows the bearing numbers and also the grade of lubricant used to refill the box of which I already know the volume is 0.8 litres
Upon removal of the box it was the OSF drive shaft support bearing that was found to have worn the aluminium casting away (see my other post) which meant that after a good clean of the outside casing and inspection of the taper roller bearings, the existing oil was reused once the re-machined casting was received back and everything reassembled. A steel sleeve has now been shrunk into the casting and through driveshaft refitted ready to put back into the car.
I have to say I think your taking a risk reusing the old gearbox oil, especially as known wear has taken place, the old oil will be contaminated with metal particulate which can cause wear on bearing surfaces. Best replace, I use Synthetic SAE 75w90 75W/90 Gear Oil GL-4 GL-5. Gear changes are lovelly and smooth and the gearbox is nice and quiet. I buy the Westway one, had no problems at all.
