I just bought a second hand 08 plated Antara 52000 miles 2.0ltre
today loud bang and the engines big ends blown anyone else had this problem now waiting to see if can be repaired if not need to find recon engine any ideas arghh

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. The 2 litre seems to have been quite a good reliable engine, I'm certainly not aware of any history of crankshaft bearing failure although I've heard of some camshaft and rocker failures. You're probably better off finding a 2nd hand engine with a guarantee because these days it will cost you an arm and a leg to get a new crankshaft fitted plus all the other bits that would go along with it (new oil pump, new timing belt, water pump, possible new clutch and dual mass flywheel etc).

Thanks just keeping fingers crossed get reply from garage tomorrow for SP price.
Problem is finding an engine reconditioned

We've just got our antara back from garage from repair with same issue, 2008 2.0 with 88k on the clock. First week we had it it needed new clutch, turbo, manifold, then engine went bang, got it back then it decided to dump it's hydraulic oil all-over the a road. Think it's spent more time on a recovery truck than on the drive.Thank god we got a 6 month warranty with it.

There we go needs a new engine as its TERMINAL dunno what to do might have to scrap it and lose 6000 quids oops as with a new engine looking at 3000 plus only bought it 2 weeks ago but hey ho private buy so no come back. Against sellers 😡

I would put a recon engine in then get rid at least you will not lose that much .recon fitted for 2000
You will only lose 2000 not 6000 if you get rid after (trade it in )

Good breakers yard you will find a good engine , some will show you it running before you buy .

That's an idea thanks the garage it was recovered to are gonna start an investigation top end for compression then sump off to check big ends as no reply at mo from recon engine people 😩😳
