Window Control switch

Hi Folks,
I have an Australian 2011 Captiva & the driver side window switch has been acting weird.

When I use it to wind up the window it hits the top then retracts back down again. To get it to close I have to get it almost to the top then inch it up slowly......

This continued for about 1 month & then it stopped & just behaved normally! I click the button & it closes the window...perfect!

Now it has gone back to the act of hitting the top & coming back down again!!

I am thinking it is possibly not a failure but rather a dirty electrical connection somewhere that makes it act erratically.

I'm willing to do work on it but wanted to check on available information before I start pulling door panels off!

Thanks in advance Folks!!

Sounds like to windows just need re-programming. I used to do this on my Mondeo because every time the battery was disconnected the windows lost their memory. Whilst I have disconnected the battery on my Antara several times the windows on this car seem to retain their memory so I haven't needed to do this on my car. The reason for this is that if somebody puts their hand in the way of the window whilst it is auto closing then the window will stop and open. So the top position just needs resetting. Unfortunately I don't know how to do this on an Antara but somebody is bound to know. If you find out can you let us all know. On the Mondeo I used to motor the window up then click to up button twice whilst the window was closed, but its bound to be slightly different on the Antara

Found this on an autoglass site, you could give it a try.

1. Hold the switch in the up position until set in the upper channel and hold for a count of 3. Listen carefully for a click.
2. Then hold the switch in the down position until fully lowered and hold for a count of 3.
3. Confirm reset thru POWER UP and POWER DOWN feature.
4. Repeat if necessary.
