I have started to notice a whining noise at low speeds. If I didn't know better I would say that is sounds like transmission whine. Constant during acceleration and variable when lifting off dependent on speed. Definitely don't think it is a wheel bearing. Has anyone else experienced this?

I also experience a whining from my car... It usually comes from the passenger seat and improves when heading to the shops or flowers are bought!

Sorry... Couldn't resist and appreciate it's no help to you whatsoever! I hope you get to the bottom of the noise and that it's nothing serious.

It does sound like the lay shaft or 1st motion shaft bearing in the gearbox.

My wife says that I never listen or something like that !

To be honest I have a very very slight whine at low speed doesn't matter what gear so probably associated to the diff and doesn't appear at any other speed, I guess as the driver I know its there but no one else has noticed it and I let my mechanic son drive mine around and he has never mentioned it. I don't think its an issue and don't believe there is a problem. I would say just check the transmission oil is okay and just leave it alone unless it gets worse.

@ Screwball - Why do you say "If i didn't know better I'd say it was transmission whine"? Is it a replacement transmission in your car? Have you had the oil checked?

Long shot maybe but could it be anything to do with your alternator or the serpentine belt tensioner pulley? Have you tried revving the engine while stationary and listen for the noise?

Propshaft? The rear propshaft bearing on mine was replaced because it was noisy, but more like grit in a brake pad at high frequency.

Hi Victor, I call it transmission whine as it reminds me of the noise I heard as a child in an old mark 1 Land Rover - albeit at a much lower volume. As far as I know, nothing has been replaced on the car.

Hi Frankr. I suspect that I too am the only one that can hear it as no one else has commented. Difficult to tell if it happens at higher speeds due to road and wind noise.

If its any consolation, there was a pool car at work that started to whine at about 80k. It went back to the lease company with 150k on the clock and still whining.

My wife says that I never listen or something like that !
