I read or saw a video somewhere that this can be caused by a faulty diode in the alternator diode pack. Apparently the alternator can still continue charging enough that it would register on a simple test meter but not full blooded charge. The problem is that the faulty diode can drain the battery. Might be OK right now during the good weather but different come winter time.

sorry its been some time had the car back to garage where i bought under the warranty.having cleaned and replaced the earths i went to pick it up they said they had road tested it i drove a copule of miles and on it came took it straight back left it running because as soon as you switch off and restart it resets itself, came away with car while they spoke to vx specialist who told them it was the clutch on the alternator took car back they removed the alternator and sent to auto electrics place where it was found to be a brand new alternator but they tested it anyway and found everything is ok with it been to pick car up today starts everytime and so far the light has stayed off so whatever it was may have been resolved when they removed and refitted the alternator but they are checking for further information regarding the sensors that feed the warning light to see if there has beenany issues will keep you posted
