Chumbucket's Transfer Box

Hi Chumbucket, I would appreciate knowing if you got everything remedied after VX replaced your transfer box, back axle and rear diff as I am now getting a similar noise and vibration after replacing DMF and clutch. The vibration starts usually in 4th 5th and 6th gear about 2,000 revs and kicks in when I accelerate. If I ease off the noise and vibration stops until the next time. My model is a 2012 4x4 with 57k on the clock

Put 'universal joint' in the Search facility and have a read-up.

Hi Kevin, did you ever have it checked out or do you just work around it by changing gear and pushing through it. The mechanics who did my DMF and clutch, road tested it yesterday, disconnected the prop and checked out the universal joints, the engine mountings, pushed the block back a tad to try and remove any slackness, but admitted that they didn't think that would resolve it. they thought that it may possibly be down to something at the engine end, maybe a pulley or belt about to go causing slipping and vibration. They suggested I visit my local mechanic as their forte is gearboxes and clutches. They spent about 2 hours on my car at no charge.
They were recommended to me by my local garage, and for gearboxes/clutches I'd recommend them. Reasonable prices.

Hi Gunner, could I ask what sort of figure the Clutch and DMF replacement was, I live in Stevenage so A1 gearbox is not to far from me, I have a harsh feeling when pressing down the clutch through the pedal.

Hi Jimmas, £890 plus VAT. I had two other quotes, both around £1,250 incl VAT so you are saving £182. VX originally mentioned a figure in excess of £2,000. Hope that's some help to you.

Had mine checked told ok by different garages, Had my clutch, dmf, csc & throttle body done at 45000 £2200 at VX dealer, csc went 6 weeks later, clutch & dmf replaced free of charge as they were contaminated. I also has transfer box oil changed at same time.
What I have found is that when tyres get down to 4mm it starts to get worse.

It goes back in tomorrow (25/02). The major works that were done as mentioned made zero difference to the original problem although, according to the VX main dealer they were totally shot anyway. Had the service manager out to drive car when stone cold- as the noise seems even worse then and he agreed that something is drastically wrong! My gut feeling is now drive shaft/CV joint area but who knows? Will update the thread when/if this gets sorted. Currently sounds like a bag of old spanners!!

Sorry to hear that, and thanks for keeping us updated. Look forward to your next (ominous?) report.
