So there's been new regs for the MOT and a thorny one is the emissions testing. On the .gov.uk web site (see link below). There's a plate on some vehicles showing the max limit but, if not, there's a new default limit to be applied:

<table><t><tr><th>Vehicle first used</th>
<th>Type</th>
<th>Value</th>
</tr>
</t>
<t>
<tr>
<td>1. First used before July 2008</td>
<td>Non-turbo</td>
<td>2.5m-1 or plate value if lower</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td></td>
<td>Turbo</td>
<td>3.0m-1 or plate value if lower</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>2. First used on or after 1 July 2008</td>
<td>All diesels</td>
<td>1.5m-1 or plate value if lower</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>3. First used on or after 1 January 2014</td>
<td>All diesels</td>
<td>0.7m-1 or plate value if lower</td></tr></t></table>

I've looked my V5 registration document but there's nothing entered for the particulate emissions. My Antara is away on loan to a family member right now so I can't check the vehicle plate to see if there's anything on it.

Could somebody check their plate and see if there's anything entered on it?

Thanks Dulac, I remember you posted something recently about your MOT but couldn't find it. Pity it's got the 0.50 figure entered otherwise we'd have been on the 0.7 default.

The figures in my V5 showed:

Sect V Exhaust Emissions:

V1: CO (g/km or g/kWh) 0.163
V2: HC (g/km or g/kWh)
- - -V3: NOx (g/km or g/kWh) 0.146
V4: HC + NOx (g/km) 0.170
V5: Particulates (g/km or g/kWh) - - -Maybe the 184 engine is different and models with the auto transmission.<!--if gte mso 9>

Thanks for the feedback BJS and Kevin b - so it seems like your limits will be 0.7 Molar volume thingy when you go for your MOT, ain't y'all just so lucky. @BJS I'd go back and edit that pic you put up, there's ppl out there who harvest genuine VINs for nefarious purposes, don't want to make it easy for them.

BTW I found a picture of mine I must have taken a while ago and forgot about it. Wonder why they quote it on the plate but not in the V5 registration.

I suppose if you use good quality fuel, follow the DPF procedure each time and avoid regular short hops the emissions should be as sweet as a nut. Or do the greater majority of diesel owners just ignore these simple matters so now diesels are due for the scrapheap. There must be an awful lot of MOT failures for Khan (London's mayor) to keep thumping his tub.

I think good quality fuel is a lot to do with it, cleaner
burning must make a difference in the long term although I noticed the recommended
Cetane value for the Antara engine is only 49, most premium fuels and diesel
additives push it up to 55 – 57 and that ain't necessarily a good thing. I liken
it to oxy-acetylene welding where if you have too much acetylene you get a carburising
flame and a dirty weld. Too high a Cetane value and you'll get more deposits, not less.

Paying attention to the DPF regens is vital but to a lot of
ppl it's like getting all heavy and out of shape then look for a miracle pill
to ‘cure' you. Far better to pay attention to what you eat and drink so you
don't get that way in the first place.
