Various members have reported trouble with the Antara starter - slow start, no start, smell of burning etc so thought I'd put up some information on the rework which might be worth checking out if you're having trouble. There were some recalls done and the best way to check if your vehicle was checked is to join MYVAUXHALL and enter your VIN which will tell you whether the mandatory recalls have been done.Unfortunately this won't give you the whole story because a lot of the rework was done under GM Service Bulletins.

The early design had the starter cable going from the + battery terminal to the terminal on the starter solenoid then there was a separate cable going from the solenoid terminal to the alternator. This was the cause of some trouble with connections etc and finally there was a re-design which made the two cables into one (see pic for old and new design) which should be factory fitted on all Antara from arounf MY 2014 / 2015.

It wasn't a mandatory change to the older Antaras, only if there were signs of poor conections / overheating etc. It might be worth your while checking out whether your car was affected.

Here's a link to a GM Service Bulletin about the starter cable etc

Shows pictures like these:

Old style connection with two separate cables. The nut is only tightened to 10 Nm which is hardly enough to hold the cables together securely enough. There were numerous cases of nuts being over-tightened and stripping the threads on the terminal post.

Importance of aligning the starter cable with the stopper before tightening.
