We have a 2012 Vauxhall antara automatic.
It broke down last weekend, selecting drive and not moving and selecting reverse and not moving.
The car is currently at Vauxhall dealer in Aberdeen who say gearbox transmission is knackered and a whole new gearbox is required.
The car has only done 28,500 miles and not even 5 years old yet.
Any else had gearbox problems, oh and they want circa 5,000.00 to fix it

Seems quite a few Antaras and Captivas - same box - have given trouble. Use the search box for Auto or Automatic and you'll get results eg

I think that's the "Manual" gearbox.

My wife says that I never listen or something like that !

Years ago my VX Carlton auto gearbox failed. Someone in the trade gave me the address of a transmission specialist on an industrial estate close by and he removed, rebuilt and replaced the gearbox. It was certainly a lot less expensive than buying another one and was as good as gold after that. Presumably your VX dealer would just replace the gearbox new for old. Do you have a fairly local firm experienced in transmissions only that does repairs and rebuilds, or exchanges, as I guess you are beyond any VX goodwill period. I wonder who makes those gearboxes?
A pal of mine had a Kia Sorrento and the auto gearbox was replaced under their warranty about 18 months ago. The dealer told him that if he had to pay the bill himself it would have been about 8500.
Good Luck

My one started the same thing today. It's now in at Peter Vardy Vauxhall for a diagnostic check at 138.00.
